13 recycled glass beads, 21-22 x 16-17 mm., light blue

Description

8 inches strand (approx. 21 cm.), 13 beads, (measuring approx. 21-22 x 16-17 mm) with 3-4 mm. hole. The color is light blue.
Approx. weight is 100 grams.

Recycled glass are made by crushing old glass (from old bottles, windows, etc) in powder, which is then heated and poured into clay molds. A leaf stem (cassava) is used as a hole. As the beads are oven backed, the glass fuses and the stem burn away.
The bead making technique has been used in Africa for centuries.
It results in a beautiful rough, primitive appearance with a texture similar to sea glass.
