Batik cow bone beads, zebra pattern

Description

These beautiful zebra striped rondelle shaped bone beads were made in Kenya.
Hand-carved from cow bone, they have an inlaid wooden core.
Length of the strand: 24 inches (60 cm.) raffia excluded.
Number of beads: 40. Bead Size: 20-23 mm diam. x 15 mm. (from hole to hole). Hole Size: 3mm. Weight 290 grams.

Most modern bone beads are made from cow or sheep or camel bones and are a byproduct of the food industry. In Kenya, skilled craftsmen carve and shape recycled bones, then use a wax resist batik process to create African designs.
